Our Tailored Reading Programme
We Love English is committed to nurturing the love of reading in our students and recognises the pivotal role that reading plays in achieving success, not only in academic matters but also in life.
Here's an overview of our approach:
- Expanding Library Resources: We believe that a well-stocked library is essential for encouraging children to read. We have an extensive library that we continue to expand regularly, ensuring that students have access to a diverse range of books, from classics to contemporary literature. Our library is at the heart of our reading initiative.
- Dedicated Library Staff: To maintain and develop our library, we have a dedicated member of staff responsible for selecting and purchasing the latest books. This person is also in charge of our online borrowing interface, making it convenient for students to access and borrow books both at school and from home.
- Reading Programme: We have implemented a comprehensive reading programme that enables us to monitor your child's progress. Each week, We Love English children read independently to an adult. Additionally, we send a book home with your child to be read. This practice encourages reading as a regular part of your child's routine, both at school and in the comfort of your home.
- Audiobooks for Language Support: Recognizing that not all of our families are fluent in English, we understand the importance of supporting children in their language learning journey. Therefore, we provide an audio copy of the book sent home for children to listen to while they read. This dual approach helps children understand the text and pronunciation, enhancing their language skills.
- Personalised Progress: We recognise that every child is unique and progresses at their own pace. We follow the Offord Owl programme, which is designed to cater to individual needs and abilities, allowing each child to develop their reading skills according to their comfort level.
- Native Speaker Volunteers: We are fortunate to have the support of native speaker volunteers who play a crucial role in implementing our reading programme. These volunteers assist in reading sessions, providing valuable insight and guidance to your child as they navigate the world of literature.
Invitation to Donate Books:
